Houdini is a circular sportswear brand, famous for transforming recycled or natural materials into components for circular, sustainable sportswear. It focuses on doing more with less to create designs that are timeless, functional, and minimalist.
With the recently launched “The New Naturals” collection, Houdini creates a unique alternative to linear sportswear and a circular collection that is as smart and effective as nature itself.
An ultimate symbiosis of the latest human technology and naturally occurring designs, the collection is created in close collaboration between Houdini, Lenzing’s TENCEL™ brand, The Woolmark Company and Südwolle. It is a combination of revolutionary thinking, cutting-edge technology and natural, biodegradable materials.
“The New Naturals” features highly functional fabrics made of Merino wool and TENCEL™ branded lyocell fibers which are manufactured by world-leading spinner Südwolle Group. The collection is designed for all kinds of adventures, as the natural fabrics offer maximum comfort and protection from the elements.
“At Lenzing, we are thrilled to collaborate with partners who are committed to exploring new frontiers of circularity and sustainability. ‘The New Naturals’ collection is a breakthrough in the textile industry, and just the beginning of the pursuit of unconventional ways to incorporate natural materials like TENCEL™ Lyocell fibers in sportswear. We hope that the new collection will inspire designers and brands to take circularity to the next level in sportswear,” said Andreas Gürtler, Senior Manager of Global Business Development Active Sportswear at Lenzing.
The collection consists of three styles, from a warming base-layer, to cozy mid-layers and protective and breathable shells. The base-layer, Desoli, features 100% Merino wool that is perfect for hiking, skiing, climbing, and bicycle commuting. Merino wool offers odor resistance, with superb moisture-wicking and thermoregulation benefits.
The mid-layer, Alto, is an all-natural fleece fabric made of an exceptional blend of 40% TENCEL™ Lyocell fibers and 60% Merino wool, offering a soft, breathable feel without compromising on thermal performance. Whilst TENCEL™ lyocell fibers are certified as compostable and biodegradable, they are also especially gentle on the skin.
The shell layer, Lana, is a newly developed shell layer made of 100% Merino wool that protects against wind and cold, whilst still being breathable. An innovative fiber stretching technology is used to create a wind and water-resistant fabric, without the need for harmful chemicals.
From the base-layer to the mid-layer and the shell layer, the collection can be largely decomposed into their original components. With “The New Naturals”, Houdini presents a circular collection that is a unique alternative to the linear sportswear currently available in the market, reflecting the high sustainability standards of all partners involved.
