Under Lenzing’s on-going commitment to drive the adoption of responsible practices and circularity, the TENCEL™ brand continues to participate in various initiatives with like-minded groups and organizations. These strategic partnerships help toward achieving this goal, further amplifying the reach of this important message among the textile supply chain and fashion community.
As part of TENCEL™’s on-going collaboration with the Fashion Council Germany, TENCEL™ worked with British designer Patrick McDowell to provide mentorship to six young designers of the FASHION X CRAFT education program. The participants produced design creations that incorporated TENCEL™ branded fibers and filaments, using fabric scraps from Patrick’s previous collections and the TENCEL™ archive.
The collection was showcased at Der Salon during Berlin Fashion Week 2024, demonstrating the results of the collaboration which forms part of a wider Future Textiles initiative driven by The King’s Foundation’s that began in 2023. Alongside other partners including eBay and PVH, the initiative was designed to breathe new life into the renowned British textiles industry while educating and promoting sustainability, craftsmanship and innovation to young fashion makers and designers.
Last year, during the ‘International Sustainability in Fashion Conference’ as part of the Future Textiles Initiative, Patrick was one of the guest speakers of the panel discussion at the conference where he shared his views on the topic of “How to Disrupt Fashion Consumption.” Patrick believes that promoting sustainability is not limited to the production level, and that it is crucial to communicate the sustainable practices embedded in the designs to educate consumers. He further emphasized that his on-going collaboration with TENCEL ™ naturally aligns and highlights these values.
In addition to supporting initiatives that inspire the next generation of designers, TENCEL™ also strives to reach established professionals in the textile sector, as well as end-consumers and fashion-lovers. As such, TENCEL™ excitedly continued its collaboration with Peet Dullaert for his new Haute Couture collection unveiled during this year’s Paris Fashion Week. The Dutch designer showcased his creations that promote sustainability and inclusivity on the catwalk for the first time, made with fabrics containing TENCEL™ fibers and TENCEL™ LUXE filaments. Hand-made in Paris, the sustainable made-to-order couture creations aimed to raise awareness and drive conversations around sustainability and inclusivity.
Events like these align naturally with the values and goals held by Lenzing, and will continue to inspire transformative action to improve the future of the textile and fashion sectors. It is Lenzing’s hope that by boosting visibility and education among future decision makers, current industry players and end-consumers, responsible practices will become more commonplace.
