TENCEL™ Lyocell and Modal fibers can bring enhanced softness and comfort to garments in this category when blended with traditional intimate wear fibers such as cotton, silk and synthetics.
Through moisture management, TENCEL™ Lyocell and Modal fibers support the body’s natural thermal regulation. Derived from natural material, the microscopic fibrils of cellulosic fibers are structured to regulate the absorption and release of moisture, contributing to fabric breathability. TENCEL™ Lyocell and Modal cellulose fibers have a higher vapor uptake than cotton combined with their smooth fiber surface. This supports the body’s natural thermal regulating mechanism.

TENCEL™ Lyocell fibers are naturally soft to the touch and offer long-lasting comfort. When viewed under an electron microscope, TENCEL™ Lyocell fibers exhibit a smooth surface area, giving fabrics a soft feel and ensuring comfort for sensitive skin.

unfavorable for bacterial growth
Through moisture management, TENCEL™ Lyocell fibers absorb moisture efficiently, as measured by the Vapor Uptake test and Water Retention Value. In comparison to Polyester and synthetics, there is less available moisture formed on the surface of the fiber for bacteria to grow. Consequently, TENCEL™ Lyocell fibers provide a less favorable environment for bacterial growth, offering better hygienic qualities.
Note: TENCEL™ Lyocell fibers do not have additives to actively reduce bacterial growth.
TENCEL™ Lyocell fibers are derived from sustainable wood sources, harvested from certified and controlled sources following the stringent guidelines of the Lenzing Wood and Pulp Policy. These fibers are also available with FSC®(C041246) or PEFC™ certification upon request.
TENCEL™ Modal fibers are mainly manufactured from beechwood, sourced from sustainable forests in Austria and neighboring countries. Beech wood forests are a natural and renewable source of raw material. A big share of the wood used at the Lenzing site comes from Austria, harvested from certified or controlled sources following the stringent guidelines of the Lenzing Wood and Pulp Policy. These fibers are also FSC® (C041246) or PEFC™ certified.
Moreover, wood and pulp used by the Lenzing Group comes from natural forests and sustainably managed plantations. TENCEL™ Lyocell and Modal fibers have been certified as Biobased under the BioPreferred® Program of the U.S. Department of Agriculture, a governmental body.
Exquisite softness derives from fine fibers, creating softer textiles. TENCEL™ Modal fibers exhibit a smooth surface and high flexibility, resulting in a naturally soft quality of the textile.
The softness of Modal fiber is confirmed by a variety of physical test methods, including Kawabata, TSA, Handle-o-meter, and Phabro-meter:
- Measurements and hand evaluations of softness show that TENCEL™ Modal fibers are twice as soft as cotton.
- The softness of TENCEL™ Modal fibers lasts longer and is able to withstand repeated wash and dry cycles compared to cotton. (Tested Fabric: Single jersey N/50/1, 120 g/m2, test method: Ring pull-through and TSA.)
- LENZING™ Modal Micro Air is Lenzing’s finest and lightest wood-based fiber.
- The degrees of softness of LENZING™ Modal, Modal Micro and Modal Micro Air can be measured by various handfeel assessment as well physical test methods such as the Tissue Softness Analyzer, Phabro-meter and Ring pull-through.
