Specifications
Birch log wood

Log wood is long or short wood.
It is chipped, chemically decomposed and converted to pulp.

Specifications:

  1. Healthy, that is no infestation with fungi or insects
  2. Saw-cut at both ends
  3. Properly debranched (no branch stubs)
  4. No forks
  5. Long logs: 2 - 6 meters
  6. Short logs: 1 meter (1 meter logs in Lenzing only in exceptional cases)
  7. Minimum diameter with bark 10 cm (max. 10 % of 8 cm and 9 cm collateral)
  8. Maximum diameter: 80 cm with bark
  9. Free from metal and stone
  10. Acceptance of all sizes in tons as absolutely dry with bark

TOLERANCE AND REJECTION LIMITS

For deviations from quality and dimension as defined by the Lenzing specifications for industrial birch wood, the following regulations apply:

Mildew and heart rot

Deduction as reject (ballast) 20% and more, rejection of delivery

Infestation

Beginning white rot: Tolerance limit 5 %. 6% and more, deduction of 25% as reject (ballast). 80% and more, rejection of delivery

Deficient form

Forks, broken wood and branch stubs cause poor stripping, technical problems and loss. Tolerance limit 5%. 6% and up, price deduction of 10%

Thinning material

Cannot be processed for technical reasons. Deduction as reject (ballast) 20% and more, rejection of delivery

Delivery

On princple, delivery must be free from other varieties. Red beech, ash and maple are tolerated as collateral. Any other varieties will be sorted out and not paid for. 20 % and more, rejection of delivery

Manipulation logs

Logs with a length of under one meter will be deducted as ballast and not paid for. Logs exceeding a length of 6 meters require cutting – deduction EUR 20 per ton absolutely dry with bark.
