Spruce wood chips

DEFINITION OF WOOD CHIPS

Wood chips are a by-product of cutting and sawing, or produced as such, as in cutting by chip removal.

Specifications:

  1. Healthy, no infestation with fungi or insects
  2. Dimensions: Length: maximum 25 mm, thickness: 3 - 5 mm, width: 20 - 30 mm
  3. Without bark
  4. Spruce or fir, no collateral

TOLERANCE AND REJECTION LIMITS

Bark

On principle, wood chip delivery should be free from bark. As small quantities of bark are unavoidable due to technical reasons, a share of less than 3% is tolerated. 3% and more will cause deductions. The triple amount is deducted. Example: 3% pure bark means deduction of 9% wood chips (4% bark - 12% wood chips, etc.). Wood chips with more than 6% bark cannot be processed. Delivery is rejected.

Fines

Wood particles smaller than 3 mm.
Fines are determined during grading according to norm SKAN (perforated strainer 3 mm) - tolerance limit 2%. Excess is deducted from delivery. 3 % fines means a deduction of 1%.
Fines content is determined statistically: A representative sample is taken from each fourth transport unit and graded in a wood chip analyzer. Fines percentages are established on a monthly basis. The average forms the basis for quality assessment of the complete delivery of the respective month. (Instruction No. FPHDA001)

Impurities

These are: plastic, metal, stone, coal, etc. (foreign matter of any kind).
Due to technical reasons contaminated chipped wood cannot be processed. Delivery is rejected. Addition of wood shavings, saw dust, leavings of deer fences, chip wool, dirt and snow is not permissible.
