General information
Paper mills using the water power of the river Ager have been in existence since the 17th century. In 1892 one of these mills - the Stallinger Mühle - was converted to a paper pulp factory, using the then innovative calcium sulfite process. The pulp produced there was then processed to paper in the associated paper factory. When the viscose fiber plan settled there in 1938, the pulp factory also produced the required "viscose silk pulp".
Today the Lenzing pulp factory is characterized by state-of-the-art technology, the highest possible utilization rate of all wood ingredients and by its integration into the viscose fiber mill. This makes it one of the most energy and cost efficient locations globally. The plant mainly processes beech wood, half of which originates in Austria.
