Lenzing launches new viscose fiber plant in China

The Lenzing Group started operation of its new viscose fiber plant at Nanjing (China). The new viscose fiber plant is the second production site for this fiber of the Lenzing Group in Asia and its sixth production site globally.
Lenzing by this step enhances its global leadership as the world's biggest producer of cellulose fibers to a nominal capacity of 560.000 tons per year.
Lenzing (Nanjing) Fibers Co., Ltd. is a joint venture with Nanjing Chemical Fibre Co., Ltd. (NCFC). Lenzing holds a share of 70% and NCFC 30%. The nominal capacity of the new plant is 60,000 tons of viscose fibers. Expansion is scheduled in alignment with market development. Investment for this stage was at about EUR 65 mill.. Lenzing Nanjing is a highly modern production facility that fully conforms to the high Western European standards of the Lenzing Group. Key technology was provided by Lenzing Technik, the mechanical construction company of the Group
Construction of the plant was completed in less than two years which now is operated by a staff of 540.

The supervisory board of Lenzing AG today announced that they will propose Peter Untersperger as their new chairman as of 1 January 2009 to the company's management board. Peter Untersperger currently is head of finance and will succeed Thomas Fahnemann, who is to join RHI AG.
