AUTOMOTIVE,- HOME- AND SPECIAL TEXTILES FROM MAN-MADE FIBRES

01.03.1999

The event will take place under the auspices of C.I.R.F.S. in Brussels, the representative body of the European man-made fibres industry. More than 70 papers presented in three separate Sections will deal with current topics in the following areas:

  1. Automotive Textiles
  2. Textile Floor Coverings
  3. New Fibres Designed for Special Textile Properties

Progress in the sector of automotive textile products is dominated by the ever-increasing demands on durability, comfort and safety. With more than 20 papers the Automotive Textile Section will include speakers from Adam Opel, Audi, BMW, DaimlerChrysler, members of Magna Holding, SAL Sassenburg, 3M Filtrete, Eybl International and Shell Chemicals along with other internationally recognized consultants as well as research and manufacturing organisations.

The development of textile floor coverings is determined by both economic and ecologic aspects. The majority of papers will deal with the introduction of new fibres and the latest developments in the manufacture of carpet fibres and their processing into textile floor coverings. Relating to the process of developing of the EURO-BAT (Best Available Techniques) Reference documents, Intercarpet '99 will also announce the European Integrated Pollution Prevention and Control (IPPC) Strategy as a main theme. These "Best Available Techniques References (BREFs)" or the system-oriented thinking behind it, may contribute to long-term objectives such as Clean Process and Sustainability.

A diversity of new fibres and yarns will allow the manufacture of special apparel and technical textiles; thus the Dornbirn programme again presents a convincing overview of the innovative potential of man-made fibres. In this 3rd Section the exchange of experiences relating to cooperative reserarch and development in textiles as well as the discussion about the different EU-subsidised programmes will be continued.
