Lenzing AG counts on apprentices
16.10.2002
At the beginning of September, 42 apprentices began their vocational training at the Lenzing site. They are being trained for Lenzing's different sectors and subsidiaries, primarily as chemical process engineers, plastics processing as well as mechanical engineering technicians, but also as paper engineers and process control operators.
The number of newly recruited apprentices is higher than in previous years. Lenzing AG, being the largest job provider in the region, has always felt that the training of apprentices is one of its concerns – and the recent development of the labor market proves that this is the right strategy.
Ernst Lackerbauer, head of personnel, says that "for a successful company it is more important than ever before to have skilled workers that are trained in-house and perform to top standards."
Lenzing AG's training center BZL, located right on site, is a well-qualified associate that provides important impulses to the comprehensive training of apprentices. For more than 20 years, the BZL (Bildungszentrum Lenzing) has successfully trained apprentices for Lenzing AG. More than 130 young staff members currently receive their vocational training in more than ten different occupations.
At present, a new "apprenticeship academy" is being developed, together with Lenzing AG. In addition to teaching occupational skills and qualifications, there is increasing emphasis on other subjects, such as personality development, social competence, team spirit, awareness for health and safety issues. The BZL increasingly also trains apprentices of other companies, in keeping with their specific needs.
Good grades for Lenzing apprentices
At the apprenticeship competition for the electrical and metal-working occupations in industry, the Lenzing apprentices received top marks as awards from the Chamber of Commerce in Linz in early July. All apprentices finished the competition with a score of "very good" – a performance that is far above the regional average.
Lenzing AG's apprentices in the competition were Andreas Schlader, Sebastian Kastenhuber and Christoph Klinger. Lenzing Technik was represented by Herbert Zoister and Johannes Baumgartner, and Lenzing Plastics by Matthias Pohn.
