Lenzing AG Presents "The Longest Lyocell Quilt in the World"

Beginning at 10.00 hrs. on 10 May, "the longest Lyocell quilt in the world" was given a successful presentation on the premises of Lenzing AG.

It took about one hour to lay out the quilt, which is exactly 759.95 m long. Then, the more than 350 participants in the attempt to set a new record sat on the record-setting quilt, wearing numbered Lyocell Record T-shirts. The quilt cover consists of Modal Micro, and the product is filled with Lenzing Lyocell fibers, which are the youngest and most innovative product made by Lenzing AG. Garanta, a German company, produced the oversized duvet.

The quilt has a total weight of 505 kg and took 131.5 hours to produce. The textile surface measures 3,520 m². The length of the trimming band is 1,500 m. The trimming band alone weighs a total of 10 kg. 299,577.0 m of yarn were needed to stitch the quilt. The number of Lyocell and Micro Modal staple fibers used amounted to about 9.3 billion.

All data of relevance to set the record were officially confirmed in a protocol by a notary public, who attended the attempt to set a record.

After the presentation of the full-length quilt, it was cut into several hundreds of individual duvets and given to charitable institutions: Prof. Dr. Poigenfürst, the accident surgeon from Vienna, received the duvets for his new accident hospital at Timisoara, Romania – a project that he has implemented at his own initiative. Another approximately 400 quilts will go to Caritas Romania, which operates a night asylum for homeless persons, as well as many other facilities for the needy.

Lenzing Lyocell®FILL, the filling fiber used for the quilt, is characterized by an extremely good moisture management and is the ideal fiber for bedding products. Lenzing Lyocell® is manufactured from wood, applying an environmentally friendly process. It is therefore a 100% natural, bio-degradable fiber. When comparing Lenzing Lyocell® to other materials, it has a high insulating capacity. Duvet quilts, made of Lenzing Lyocell® are therefore very thin, but still the warmest.

Celebrating with Customers from all Parts of the World

More than 300 customers from Austria and all parts of the world came to Lenzing in order to attend the three-day anniversary festivities on the occasion of the record fiber production and the 65th anniversary of Lenzing AG.

The record celebrations opened at Fuschl am See in the lovely surrounding of the Salzkammergut, the Salzburg lake district, where a top-level seminar for customers was held, featuring special lectures. On the first day, the focus was on Lyocell, the youngest fiber made by Lenzing AG, as well as marketing issues. Competent internal and external experts made their contribution to the discussion of this special subject.

The second day of the seminar was dedicated to "sustainability". Lenzing AG – which uses wood, a renewable substance, as a raw material – began at an early stage to commit itself to the principle of sustainability. Hannelore Veit, the ORF anchorwoman, moderated a podium discussion with experts on this topic.

Festivities at Lenzing

On Friday evening, the celebrations continued at Lenzing. Renowned representatives from Austria's business and political community gathered in the marquee on the Lenzing AG premises, where guests were entertained with an exciting show program.
