Highly flame retardant viscose fibers can be manufactured by applying a special incorporation technology. The fibers are used for protective clothings and home textiles.

An environmentally friendly bleaching method for pulp is launched.

The foundations are laid and construction begins at South Pacific Viscose in Indonesia.

Bank Austria sells its Lenzing shares to CVC – the EU competition authorities, however, prohibit the sale.

Lenzing AG sells its majority share in Lenzing Fibers Corporation (LFC), its US subsidiary. 39% of the LFC shares remain Lenzing AG's property.

In November, Lenzing AG withdraws from US Minority Holding Lenzing  Fibers Corporation

  1. January: Capacity expansion program at the Lenzing site completed (90 EUR mill.)
  2. January: New global Business Unit organization
  3. March: Lenzing Fibers (Shanghai) Co. Ltd. – opening of new trading company
  4. May: Lenzing AG acquires Tencel Group of Companies. The seller is Corsadi BV,  part of the international financial group CVC. Tencel operates one large-scale lyocell plant in the USA (Mobile, Alabama) and another in the UK (Grimsby), with a total nominal capacity of about 80,000 tons per year.
  5. September: Lenzing Instruments (a former division of Lenzing Technik) join Textechno.

2005

  1. January: Lenzing builds viscose fiber production in China. The new production site, to be situated in an industrial park near the town of Nanjing in the south-east Jiangsu province, will have an annual capacity of about 60,000 tons of viscose staple fibers for textile and nonwoven applications.
  2. April: Tencel takeover receives cartel office approval
  3. September: Green light for processing of recycling material at the Lenzing site
  4. November: Start-up of the fiber processing unit at South Pacific Viscose (Indonesia)

  1. January: Topping-out ceremony at the viscose fiber production plant in Nanjing (China).
  2. November: Delisting from German stock exchanges

  1. January: Lenzing Plastics takes over German plastics producer Hahl Group GmbH.
  2. March: The Lenzing Group enters the production of future material carbon fibers.
  3. April: Successful production start-up at the new viscose fiber plant in Nanjing (China)
  4. April: Lenzing Plastics acquires German plastics producer Pedex.
  5. April: The Lenzing Group announces construction of a new viscose fiber production plant in India, in cooperation with the Indian Modi Group
  6. May: Lenzing Plastics buys US plastics producer Glassmaster
