Lenzing reinforces its market activities in IndiaSince the 1970’s exports of textiles have increased 270 times in India. Reputed brands such as Gap, Banana Republic, Nike, Liz Clairborne and many more, have already established sourcing offices in India and use the traditional Indian textile market to produce their goods. “Thus it makes sense that Lenzing should follow suit and do the same as its customers – since many of the brand manufacturers are already indirectly our customers - whilst at the same time ensuring the optimum supply of the textile chain with fibres to Indian producers”, Thomas Fahnemann argues. Another reason why it might be a good idea to look favourably on an Indian base is the forecasted two-digit economic growth for India, the constant growth in the population and the constant increase in family incomes. This development will raise the future textile consumption per capita, and thus the consumption of fibers within India, transforming the latter into an interesting sales market for fibers from Lenzing. Moreover the opening of a Lenzing office in Mumbai in the first half of 2006 highlights the importance of the Indian market for Lenzing. A team of technicians and marketing experts will offer rapid and direct support with the processing and marketing of Lenzing fibres to Indian customers on the site.
